 The calm before the storm...
It's been more than 700 years since the last natural disaster, and the people of earth thought nothing of it. Years passed, and scientists began to make theories of this natural phenomena; since the beginning of time, nothing had ever been this calm. They said there would be one last catastrophe, and it would be the mother of all storms.. And yet people laughed at the very thought of it. Instead of preparing food and storing water away for upcoming disaster, they went along with their lives.. They thought they were on the peak of perfect, until a few more years passed..
The date was October 5th 2815, Day of Disaster.
Earthquakes tore the ground; tornados ruled the sky; hurricanes consumed the coastlines; volcanoes erupted, some newly awakened and adding to the chaos.. Saying that many perished is an understatement; more then three quarters of the world’s population was destroyed.
The people quickly took down the remaining governments for not preparing them or leading them to safety, and officials were attacked and most killed in brutal ways possible. Along with millions of homes, businesses, and government buildings, jails were also torn down, and those that lived quickly took to the streets. Months passed and as the crime rate soared, so did the number of loved ones found dead. Without anyone to lead them or jobs or the safety of a home to go to, many survivors took to the countryside and began simple lives without all the luxuries of life.
The human race seems to be moving backwards now, resorting to violence for everything and kidnapping or trading people almost as slaves to do the dirty work or venture into the most dangerous places in the city to look for food. Some choose to work for these intimidating groups, while others are captured.
Those who live in the country are the safest; however, gangs and anarchist groups have started to arise and take over the cities, slowly moving to the make-shift camps and farms that now stand as the only symbols of a once-structured society. Times are getting darker.. More death is coming.. Will humanity re-build its empire, or will they only destroy themselves in the end?
The fire of hope is burning in some, but outside, it’s only raining ashes.. We seem to be drowning in those that have fallen..
Wanderers, whether alone or traveling in a group are only trying to peacefully put their lives together; gangs, enjoying the chaos and ruling the streets like never before; anarchists, like gangs except trying to completely take over instead of just being feared like the gangs; and the captured, slaves to the gangs and anarchists and just trying to stay alive..
